TSG's 4th Anniversary / Jordan CG 11 Midnight Release Party

Yesterday was the release date for the most highly anticipated Jordan retro of the year, the cool grey Jordan 11s. This pair of Jordan 11s in this particular colorway were originally released to the public in 2001. Almost 10 years later, what better way to celebrate the release of a highly anticipated shoe than to have a party before selling the shoes at midnight? That's what Nike Atlanta of Lenox Mall did yesterday, while also hosting TheShoeGame.com's fourth anniversary party. There were several giveaways throughout the night, along with music, food, and a ton of people. Three of the giveaways were pairs of the CG 11s, none of which I won. When it came time to purchase the shoes, I couldn't bring myself to do that either due to my priorites. Eventhough I was not able to get my hands on a pair of the CG 11s, I had a nice time at the event. I know one thing is for certain, if the rumors of the Jordan Concord 11 retros being next year's big holiday release, then TSG's fifth anniversary party is going to be crazier than this year's party. I will be sure to be there early, and have money in hand to purchase my pair at midnight.

Here's a recap of the event:

The line was crazy, and there were still about 100 more people lined up behind me. To get an idea of how crazy it was, the event started at 9:30pm, and nike only let 5 people in at a time. I didn't get in until 10:20pm.

When we finally got in, the store was packed from wall to wall

My girlfriend in her Jordan 1s, and me in my grape Jordan 5s

Me and fellow NikeTalk member MostHated770 and what we wore that night

DJ Greg Street of V.103 Atlanta and Yung Joc were in the building

I wish I had the funds to purchase a pair of the 11s for myself, but times are hard at the moment. Reseller prices on Ebay, Niketalk, and the SoleCollector forums are through the roof for this particular pair of shoes, which retailed at $175 at the time of its initial release. I will get these one day, just not now. My birthday is next month, so I might just treat myself to this pair of shoes...

My Turn Now (You Be Killin Em) Promo Video

I've tried to be Mr. Friendly collab w/ other up and coming music artists, bloggers, and producers, but the lack of communication on their behalf is their problem not mine. I'm building my own team of artists and producers to work on a few projects to promote myself and what I stand for. All of these other singers and emcees can either get down, or lay down cause Mr. Friendly has left the building...

A Great Start to My Weekend

I'm thankful for waking up every morning and getting another chance to live my life. The beginning of the week however can be long and boring, but when the weekend comes, it's definitely a reason to celebrate. Since coming to Georgia State University, my weekends start on Thursday afternoon when I get out of my last class for the day. As is the case for most students on campus, Thursday is a friendly reminder that the weekend is only hours away. The weekend symbolizes a break from school, and possibly even work. When it comes to breaks, Atlanta is where it's at, especially at night when the bright city lights illuminate the city and class is not in session.

Yesterday was one of my longer days on campus. I've been wanting my good friend Andre to come to school with me for a while now to check it out and see how it is during a day when class was in session to meet new students and check out a program for massage therapy. Since Dre was off work yesterday, he got the chance to come to campus and check it out. We both woke up at 5:30 am and hit the road for school at 7. When I was finished with my classes st 3:45, Andre and I were invited to hang out for dinner at the dormitory of mutual friend, Victoria, while Andre and I waited for the first GSU basketball game of the season to start at 7pm. The three of us went to shop for the ingredients to make dinner accompanied by a mutual friend of Victoria and I, Ricky, and a friend of his. For dinner, we had chilli dogs and tortilla chips, a dinner perfect for budgeting college students.
Dinner was so good, we missed the game's tip off at 7, but we left the dorms with enough time to see the game before halftime, or so we thought. Victoria stayed in student dorms that were off campus so we had to drive back to the school to watch our GSU Panther's play against Clark Atlanta's Panthers. There was only one problem, Atlanta traffic was bumper to bumper because the Atlanta Falcons (NFL) and the Atlanta Thrashers (NHL) were playing home games in arenas that were next door to each other. We didn't make it to the basketball game until there were 10 minutes left in the second half. The game ended up going into overtime, where GSU was defeated by Clark 56-53.

Although the game was over, our night was far from it. Andre, Victoria and I went to the basketball game, while Ricky and his friend went to visit the "Taste of Africa" dinner in the campus ballroom, so I went with Andre and Victoria to meet the guys in the ballroom. That was a party in itself filled with food, music, dancing, and overall fun. I didn't stay to enjoy all the festivities of Taste of Africa, because I was more interested in the Fraternities and Sororities outside of the ballroom who were officially welcoming their former pledges into their brother or sisterhood. Victoria accompanied me outside to watch. There was a live DJ, a huge crowd, and the brothers and sisters of different Greek chapters on campus. That was my type of party, and I had fun watching. The night drew closer to an end as midnight approached. Andre and I had just enough time to make it back home before 1am. When I got settled in at home, I made my bed my best friend. I love it at GSU.

Hi haters, I'm back off HIATUS

It's obviously been months since I've written a blog to share with you. I haven't even been updating my twitter on a regular basis either. I'm at a new school (Georgia State University) and I'm still working diligently with 2 jobs on my plate as well as being a full time student, son, friend, boyfriend, etc. I haven't even had much time or money for my music. But that's about to change for good really soon, with no excuses.

Get ready...

An Ode to Lindsay Lohan

What's up people? It's already July which means that 6 months of 2010 are already over and we have just started the first month of the remaining 6. The year is flying by super fast, but the one thing that has me making a blog entry right now is LINDSAY LOHAN. What the heck happened to this girl? I had the illest crush on Lindsay since that movie that she starred with Tyra Banks in as a kid. My crush on her continued when she played in "The Parent Trap" and way after I got older and hit puberty, she made me want her even more after her transformation from nerd girl from Africa to the new hottie from the Plastics crew in the movie "Mean Girls."

Heck, I even thought she looked pretty hot in her "Rumors" music video from her album "Speak."

But in the last few years, Lindsay just like her career have gone downhill: from snorting coke, to her numerous DUIs, now she's about to get locked up for 3 months.

I sure hope Miley Cyrus doesn't follow in her footsteps cause that girl's getting PAID right now and I'd hate to see her career get ruined over cocaine and alcohol. Why Lindsay? WHY?

My Superman Complex - Why I lead a double life

When people ask me who my favorite super hero is I tell them Superman. When when they ask me why, I say because he saves people. He is an alien from another planet who was sent to Earth as a baby by his birth parents as his home planet Krypton was was being destroyed. His parents knew that he would be considered a "god among men" when he arrived to Earth with powers and abilities no regular man would have, yet they sent him to be raised by humans who would raise him as their own child and teach him morals as he grew older. His birth parents wanted him to use his powers to prevent the destruction of Earth at the hands of man. They didn't want the fate of Krypton (destruction caused by war) to be the fate of Earth. As Clark Kent, Superman's secret identity, he is a mild mannered news reporter for the Daily Planet in Metropolis. Whenever trouble or danger is near, he disposes his disguise to reveal Superman to the world and stop crime and other disasters wherever they may be. Superman uses the Daily Planet as a way of knowing what is going on in the world.

I am a journalism major in school. I want to know what is going on in the world so that I may be able to use my talents to help make a difference in this world wherever or however I can. I want to rescue those in danger. That's why I am SoloStar. That's why I do what I do. I want to use my talents (music and the gift of rhyme) to speak to people. Whether they take my advice or not is up to them, but I won't stop saying what I have to say until I see a drastic change in society. I have what I like to call a "Superman Complex." Journalist by day, motivational lyricist (because I am not just a rapper) by night.

It's Already June?

Time really flies doesn't it? I made a return to the booth a few days ago to record some songs after a 10 month hiatus. I almost forgot everything it took to make 1 song! I will be posting videos of my tracks on youtube, and then here like this one I recently recorded featuring my boy Space b. It's our take on Wale's "Pretty Girls."

I also had the pleasure meeting up with one talented young lady who can sing her heart out. She goes by the name Brittnee Camelle. I met her sometime last month at my job, and then at our Alma Mater's 2010 graduation. Here's Britt's first video:

We got the chance to meet up today and get a feel for each other's style of music and how we do what we do for our love of music. After our session today, she tweeted

"Had a great meeting/chill session with @SoloStar. Dope MC and humble person. Lets get it B!!"

Let's get it indeed Britt!

Be on the lookout for the heat Brittnee and I are about to bring to y'all! You better get ready! Be sure to follow her on twitter @MissCamelle.

Why Destroy Someone's Life for Wealth?

SMH is all I have to say.

We all know crackheads exist, but these guys take pride in having the ability to destroy someone else's life for internet popularity, or e-fame. One dude was smart enough to cover his face up, but the others might as well wave their social security cards and driver's licenses in the camera if they were just gonna snitch on themselves. Speaking of snitchin', five years or so ago, the "stop snitchin" movement was prominent among the hip hop community. Rappers where the main ones advocating the movement but those were the ones who were doing the most snitching. If you like hip hop, then I'm sure that you know which rappers snitch on themselves by constantly reminding us about the amount of drugs they used to sell, can still sell, and probably would sell if they weren't rapping. Whether it was because they're entertainers and they're just giving their audience what they think they wanna hear, or they actually lived that lifestyle and they're just snitching on themselves because they don't care who's listening. It's not just the drugs, they snitch about guns they may or may not have too. What I never understood was why do people keep doing it? You snitch on yourself, cops watch you, and you get caught when you do exactly what you say you would be doing while you were snitching on yourself in a song. Take T.I. as an example. TIP is a legend; one who got busted for buying SMGs and was placed on house arrest after doing community service. Why? Because he wasn't careful. Much like this dude, who thinks it's cool to be a dope boy and snitch on himself about his lifestyle:

Stop Snitchin', even if it is on yourself.
As a matter of fact, let's all just stop the illegal nonsense and do the right thing. If not for yourself, then do it for your people, and your family. I'm sure dealers and gangstas would love for their children to fall victim to the lifestyle they live and just become another statistic...
So please DO THE RIGHT THING, and let's not fall victim, word to The Canz

Peace out April. Hello May.

As I say so long to the month of April, I've decided to stop being lazy and devote my evening off work to getting everything involving my music in order. I've promoted my my facebook page and went from having 8 fans or "likes" as fb calls them now, to having 49 likes (in a matter of hours), and counting. Even if this is a small achievement, I'm proud of myself for putting out the effort to go from 8 to 49 in no time. Now if only I can stop being lazy and finish these songs so I can promote them the same way.

Check out my facebook page!

I'm also working on getting a "No Future pt 2" to go from a dream to reality. But until then, let the original hold you down:

Stay tuned...

Am I the Only One Who Hates GA's Tri-Polar weather?

It was only a couple of days ago that I was writing about the gorgeous weather outside while I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Now today it's rainy and chilly. Why do I have a feeling that it may snow next? Oh wait a minute, it did this past February when it was a warm sunny day one day, and then it snowed the very next day. This constant weather change is going to make me sick again.

Looks like it may be time to restock my cough drop and tissue supply again.

Summertime in April, here in ATL

It's funny how the warm weather brings out the athlete in all of us. From joggers outside with shorts and a tank top, or basketball players with gym shorts playing a pick up game of "shirts versus skins." One thing every athelete has in common is a fit or ideal body, if they aren't already working towards obtaining one of their own.
A beautiful day like today is what the citizens of Atlanta have been hoping for since the first snow day that we had in the beginning of 2010. While walking around Georgia Perimeter College's Dunwoody campus, I found a young man who asked me the same question that I have been wondering all spring semester. "Where is the gym?"
Geide Mohammed, 19, was walking around with thoughts of playing basketball in his spare time. I met him in the back of the campus' B building. "When I get there I would like to shoot some hoops, and maybe lift some weights" Geide said." When I asked if he was enjoying today's warm, sunny weather, he said "I'm enjoying it - it's better than anywhere else right now." I too am enjoying the weather.
Geide, if you are reading this, I found that the gym is in building F. I just might take a trip there later this week in my spare time between classes. Lord knows I need it.
